Atlantis

The mysterious, elusive, secretive island of Atlantis. Does it really exist? Or is it just a myth that’s leaked its way into our culture and taken on a life of its own?

The first mention of Atlantis in written history is by Plato over two thousand years ago, but even then Atlantis was already a legend going back to 9,000 years before! If Plato is right, and there is an island, it would have disappeared about 11,000 – 12,000 years ago.

There are many theories about what happened to the lost island of Atlantis. In Plato’s stories, Atlantis was destroyed by earthquakes and floods. Here is a quote from Plato’s story Critias:

But at a later time there occurred portentous earthquakes and floods, and one grievous day and night befell them, when the whole body of your warriors was swallowed up by the earth, and the island of Atlantis in like manner was swallowed up by the sea and vanished; wherefore also the ocean at that spot has now become impassable and unsearchable, being blocked up by the shoal mud which the island created as it settled down.

Another theory is that a comet came from outer space and hit the ocean surronding the beautiful city of Atlantis and the impact was so large, it drowned the whole city and it sank underwater. They said there would have been no survivors but what if some Atlanteans were on vacation or something, I doubt all of them were on the island at one time! Scientists have been trying to find out if it’s true that everyone died, but I think that’s nonsense. Tell me what you think in the comments, I want to hear what other people think that aren’t scientists!

One of the problems with Atlantis is we don’t know exactly where it was… but in 1968 a great discovery was found. Bimini Road. Bimini Road, sometimes called the Bimini Wall, is an underwater rock formation near the Bahamas. Scientists say it is naturally formed by nature but you can tell it is a road! Some people think it’s a road from Atlantis and that’s why it’s so famous.

One thing is for sure, the lost city of Atlantis has captured our imaginations for centuries. I personally don’t believe this is a true story, merely a myth. How come we haven’t found any evidence with all the technology we have today? If it was such a big city there must be SOME evidence left over besides the Bimini Road…

there’s a lot of mysteries surrounding our earth. Possibly, if there was Atlantis place. Then maybe there is. If Plato said it, he maybe mean it. How could he said any of those related to Atlantis if there wasn’t? Maybe, Atlantis could not be found underwater because of the mud and the flood causing Atlantis gone. Sooner, maybe we can experience it because of the CLIMATE CHANGE.

  5. Well for me, I believe it is true. Ever since I was small I believed it! I wish someday soon someone will find some kind of answer! Yeah maybe it is all completely gone and covered, since so many years have passed. But there sure does have to be some kind of evidence left somewhere under the ocean. It makes me happy and sad all at the same time. This was 1 main reasons why I wanted to become an Archaeologist! To discover history! Im 26 years old so there is still time for me to try and get up there and out there to search!

Go for it ! I want to be an archaeologist too! We all have to start somewhere!

    • Jenna says:

I, too, wanted to be an Archaeologist for this very same reason. In all the research I’ve done, I do believe that I know the location of Atlantis. As to why, with all our technology, we’ve not been able to find anything more than the Bimini Road… because we do not possess the technology to go to the very bottom of the Ocean floor, where Atlantis sits, and survive. I’m nearly 40 now, and I still dream of going on expedition to find my beloved sunken city. The Journey to Atlantis! It is in my blood. =)

  6. jack cane rrimonen says:

yes it did exist, iam one of the descendants from the lost city of atlantis having records of the farm my ancestors used to own there and jewelry from there as well but my family likes to keep this secret hidden from the world

  7. jack cane rrimonen says:

captain james cook was one of the descendants to and thats where i gaet my blood from

  8. some guy says:

    well about this one . . .

i don’t believe it’s true but at the same time i believe in it too for some odd reason which i don’t know . . .

the rocks may have been formed naturally by nature and it’s forces . . . as you could see this IS possible through weathering and may have just sunk due to a number of reasons . . . .
while it could’ve really been a part of atlantis because of the rocks and how they were placed and what it was shaped like . . . if it is possible will all our current technology we should dig deeper and see more of what we could see . . .

or it may just be that scientists may have found something and not telling it to the world (i have heard of this instance. . .)

at times i just don’t know why we would just strive harder for these kind of things . . . i don’t have anything against them but . . . they wasted time and wasted money . . . .

they prove it – they get fame
they would mark their names on history

but what i would say is

    Dig Deeper. . .

  9. Amber says:

I’m thirteen years old, i know im young, but i just find this so interesting. Are scientists still looking in the same place because if they are thats silly, isnt it? surely because of the oceans current it will gradually move the island so it will not be in the same place. its great to keep an open mind on everything, but maybe if archiologists did reasearch of how long ago and how the oceans have changed and have moved, then maybe there might be more clues or evidence. like the titanic for example, that isnt in the same place as where its sunk, and maybe if where the road is, maybe if we got the technology to dig around it, for all we know, rocks, stones, sand, dead creatures, bones, fossils anything could easily be covering it.

  10. Heya i am for the primary time here. I came across this board
and I in finding It really helpful & it helped me out much.

I’m hoping to provide something back and aid others such as you helped me.

  11. Lisa Likoski says:

A medium told me yesterday that in my past life i lived there but when it sank i drowned. Creepy isnt it.

  12. rebecca says:

i believe that Atlantis is real somwere deep in the ocean barred benith the sand that why no one can find any trace of it. its a secret island that i have hered and believe that mermaid have calmed Atlantis as there own as it had sunk so deep down as an endless pit were creatures that we has never seen live there and create there own world there i would love to find out more keep updated

  13. eddie lopez says:

I have always wonder what is Atlantis and I Google it and this article came up. I read it and if it was told 2000 years ago then it must have some true to it… I mean if the titanic is underwater and it looks like its sinking more n more under the mud of the ocean then may be the city is not under water may be its under the mud and also if another story says that a comet hit it near and then it was under water and the island was near the Bahamas then it makes sense… Why? Bcuz I duno if its Arizona or Texas but isn’t there a big hole from a comet? May be the comet hit and did some type of wipe to the island… I mean it makes sense… If ur looking at the road may be follow the road and do some digging…

  14. GMI says:

Atlantis must have existed like our world of today. Its disappearance is totally in conformity with what the Lord God said in psals 107 verses 33……..Our world of today will one day dissapear like Atlantis if we continue to offend God by idolatry, same sex marriage, euthanesia, adultry, embezzlement of public funds, abortion, killing of innocent human beings, etc. The day to change and live is today and the hour is now

    Atlantis existed circa 16000-9500BC

    • William Nichols says:

forged in the caldron of Middle Earth during the grips of the last ice age it journeyed to the shores of Eden where, for more than 6000yrs, they sailed the Great Ocean to colonize and rule the world. Then, in the course of one day, it was wiped from the face of the Earth!!! A TRUE STORY!!!!!!!!
