The crust and the magnetosphere. Two giant factors of why we are living on the Earth. The crust is the outermost surface on the Earth. It is about 25 miles thick beneath the continents but it is only 6.5 miles thick beneath oceans. One thing I learned about the crust that I didn’t know was that it is light and brittle. There are things called tectonic plates in the crust and when they rub against each other, collide, and shift, this is what causes earthquakes. The magnetosphere… I had no idea what that was, but I was amazed to learn that we wouldn’t be living right now if it weren’t for this amazing magnetic field protecting the earth from radiation! The bad thing that is happening right now to the magnetosphere is it is weakening, and soon we won’t have one because of the way people treat Earth, always trashing it, polluting it, using dangerous toxic chemicals, and destroying the ozone layer. This is where we live, people, respect it or we’ll be just like Mars – a vast wasteland!
