People have been changing the world by their actions and what they do, whether it be good or bad for the Earth. Humans so dominate the Earth that we’ve entered a new era called the Anthropocene Era – the human epoch.
Two of the ways people have changed the world is by mining and oil drilling. Strip mining is when they remove all the ore and minerals out of the ground and all they leave behind is dirt. Mining damages and changes the Earth because they use up all of the Earth and just leave behind big canyons. Drilling for oil also damages the Earth by sucking up and using up all the deposits in the Earth. Sinking a bore hole miles and miles down into the Earth must also damage it. Some oil deposits are over 100 million years old.
People have also changed the world by building cities all over the place, big, tiny, whatever the size! These cities change the world by changing the surface of the planet. To build all these buildings we have to chop down all these trees which leads to deforestation. Some animals live in these forests. So these animals lose their homes and they end up looking for a new place in order to survive. But animals do not respond very well to this change and end up dying. This is a big change in the enviroment.
People also change the Earth by destroying the ozone layer and letting more UV rays come in and destroy more of our planet. More UV rays raise the temperature of the planet and contributes to global warming. The raising of the temperature also causes things like El Nino which causes more storms and hurricanes to take place. When there are more storms there are more people dying, losing their homes, paying more for repairs and even new homes, and it damages the Earth as well! The UV rays also melt the ice caps and reduces the habitats of animals like polar bears.
So people are destroying the Earth every day without knowing it and soon… who know’s if there will even be an Earth left for us to live on. So let this be a lesson to all of us, humanity. The things that we’re doing every day are destroying OUR habitat and we need to stop now and start taking better care of our planet. It’s the only one we have.
